Things To Do in Manaus: Take In the Opera House

Teatro Amazonas was inaugurated on December 31, 1896.

It has a concert hall with capacity for 701 person, distributed among the audience and the three-story cabins. In the hall, with baroque characteristics stands out the ceiling painting called “A Glorificação das Belas Artes na Amazônia” (The Glorification of Fine Arts in the Amazon), by Domenico de Angelis in 1899.

The Opera House is a benchmark for regional, national and international concerts. There are opera and film festival every year.

There are regular guided tours and free concerts on weekends. During the guided tour you´ll can see the structure of the building and hear your story. The tours operate from Monday to Saturday (9 am until 4pm) and costs $ 10.

IMPORTANT: Take care to arrive at least an hour in advance and wearing appropriate clothing (no shorts or flip flops) for the concerts.
