How to spend a week in Corfu

Arriving in Corfu Town, where you will base yourself for half of the duration of your trip, it’s worth noting that this region has warmer waters than the west coast, beautiful pebbled beaches, and a host of historic sights to be discovered.

Here are some things to do during your stay in this area.

Corfu Town

Day 1

There are so many incredible things to see and do in the vicinity of Corfu Town, but today you will start by getting familiar with this beautiful region, including:

  • Strolling to the majestic Venetian Castle, the old fortress was constructed by the Venetians in the 15th century on the site of a former Byzantine castle.
  • A host of museums including the Archeological Museum of Corfu and the Museum of Asian Art Corfu.
  • Try some local Greek food such as gyros and souvlaki, as you take in the atmosphere of the architecture and idyllic streets of this town.

Day 2

Today is a relaxing beach day with some fantastic beaches to be discovered in the area such as Pelekas Beach, Issos Beach, Kalami Beach, and Paradise Beach, where you can take on some adventurous activities such as wakeboarding, boat trips, and jet skiing.

If you fancy a bit more culture, be sure to visit historical sites such as the Casa Parlante – which will give you an insight into 19th Century Corfu, from the eyes of the upper class, as well as the old fortress.

Day 3

On the agenda today is a visit to the 19th Century Achilleion Palace, not far from Corfu Town, which is a fabulous neoclassical mansion that offers some outstanding sea views. Known as the Palace of Sisi, this top attraction in Corfu, is one that you cannot miss out on, given that it has so much history, beautiful architecture as well as several statues representing ancient Greek philosophers, and ancient gods, and Greek heroes. You could easily spend the whole day here just admiring this palace, so be sure to take as much time as you want to soak up all the history that this Palace oozes. Following your cultural day out, you can look forward to a relaxing evening back in Agios Gordios, with a beachside dinner.

After this you can spend the afternoon at one of the nearby beaches Agios Spiridon Beach or Agios Petros Beach, before a delicious dinner back in Corfu town – try the moussaka!

Day 4

Your last day in the area will be spent with a day trip to the Paxos and Antipaxos islands and Blue Caves, where you will get amazing views of Corfu town and the coastal cliffs. This will be a memorable day full of incredible views so make sure to have your camera on hand. At the end of a long day of adventure, have a local dinner and some wine in Corfu town, for your last evening on the east coast.

Agios Gordios

For the second portion of your trip, you will explore the fantastic west side of the island, famed for its unspoiled sandy beaches and excellent views, as well as cooler waters which are ideal for refreshing yourself on a hot day.

Here are some of the highlights to visit from your base in Agios Gordios.

Day 5

Today you will make your way to the west side of the island, stopping off at the Agias Paraskeuis Monastery, which has stunning views and a great history to uncover. Onwards to Agios Giorgos, you will have the rest of the day to enjoy this traditional Greek village and have a local dinner while the sun sets perfectly over the sea.

Day 6

Your day will be spent strolling through the three traditional villages of Kato Garouna, Pentati & Sinarades, which are a far cry from the typical Greek resort towns. Here you can experience a local way of life, walk along quaint paths and soak up the island village vibes, before a visit to the fabulous Monastery of Paleokastritsa, which dates back to 1228, and is an inspiring sight to see, not to mention the incredible views from the top. With an onsite museum and olive oil press inside the monastery, be sure to take your time enjoying this cultural activity, before making your way back to Agios Gordios town for dinner and an incredible sunset.

Day 7

Your last day in the region will be a day of adventure, with options to take a quad safari, go scuba diving, cliff jumping, kayaking, or hiking, all of which are readily available depending on what energy levels you have that day, however, there is no crime against soaking up the sun on the beach with a cocktail in hand if that is what you prefer.

Agios Gordios has it all, so make sure your last day is spent enjoyably, and finish it all off with a traditional Greek dinner – we suggest getting a platter with some delicious dips such as hummus, tzatziki, and labneh combined with some fresh pita, Greek salad and of course a hearty lamb stew or moussaka to top it all off. Greece is well known for its delicious wine, and the island of Corfu produces some great varieties, so have a glass or two with dinner to cheer up a week well spent in Corfu.
